my husband took enbrel for 3 years he has been off of it, really hasn't needed it in about a year, last week he had a chest e-ray for a surgery needed, his lungs are full of small malinant tumors, his lungs are FULL of individual tumors, both lungs...from Enbrel, don't be foolish and take this drug, yes it makes you feel better at the time but long term this drug is not worth it, we have a hell of...

The cost was extremely high even with insurance and the results were poor.

I have taken Enbrel for 10 years for plaque psoriasis and associated arthritis. It worked very well for both my skin condition and joint pain. I recently had to stop treatment because of neurological symptoms.

Enbrel has been a miracle drug for me. I was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis at the age of three. I am sixty years old now. I started on Humira 12 years ago and after about three years was switched to Enbrel. I am more physically active on Enbrel in the last almost ten years than I was able to be for my entire life prior. I can run! I can wear pretty shoes! I can get up out of a bathtub! I can sit on the floor and get back up! All by myself! My quality of life is so much improved that I am willing to take the risk of any side effects from the medication. I am very thankful that I have not experienced any yet. Read More Read Less

I've been on Enbrel since it first came out, 14-15 years. 2 years ago, I had an MRI for arthritis in my spine, the radiologist saw many kidney clear cysts on both kidneys. I was told that clear kidney cysts aren't cancerous, and if they weren't causing any symptoms they would just monitor them with ultrasound every 6 months. Two years after first finding the cysts, they saw a mass in my kidney. I had a CT scan and it showed I had a mass in each kidney. Masses are always treated as cancer and need to be surgically removed. At the initial consult with the kidney surgeon (in Rochester Mayo Clinic), he said he was going to do an open partial nephorectomy. I asked if they were going to remove the cysts too, and he said their really wasn't a need because they were still clear cysts. I just had the surgery to remove the mass on my left kidney, and they biopsied one of the cysts and it was cancer. So, they removed all 9 cysts and 8 of them were cancer. Now I have to go back to Rochester and have the right side done. I can't say that Enbrel caused the cancer, but their has been no cancer in my family. And clear kidney cysts aren't cancer, but 8 out of 9 of mine were. I had to go off Enbrel 4 weeks before the surgery, and I haven't gone back on it because I'm scared it caused the cancer. Now almost every joint is swollen and painful. So yes, Enbrel does work great for RA symptoms, but I'm not sure it's worth the risk, if it does cause cancer. Read More Read Less

I have had Guttate psoriasis for 5 years and the symptoms were getting worse. I started out on Methotrexate and that helped about 50% of the areas. Added Enbrel after 3 months and saw quick improvement after 8 weeks. I am 99.5% clear and no side effects that are noticeable. Only downside is that the injection hurts more when injected into thighs.

I have been using Enbrel since 2000 before I started taking it I could not walk, pick up a fork, turn my head, work a button or preform may other of the motions people use to live life, my joints felt as if they were exploding form the inside and I was heading towards being bed ridden full time. The pain was mind numbing and always present. I was also a mom and was devastated at not being there for my child. The doctor I saw at Duke University was very through in going over the risks associated with the drug. With in two weeks of starting Enbrel I was pain free, in two months I was climbing mountains and whitewater rafting. I have had 14 years living an active full life. I know that something can come up at any time, but the trade off for me has been well worth the risk. Read More Read Less

My mother started taking Enbrel. As SOON AS she did, everything went downhill. She was never the same. Spots on her lungs, infections, etc... It eventualy killed her. IT was supposed to help her arthritis and she believed big Pharma. Big Pharma and the FDA killed her.

Ill be visiting my mom at Calverton national cemetery in a few days for the 3rd anniversary of her long painful agonizing death due to Embrel. I wanted to finally stop by and personally thank you great folks at Pfizer & the FDA. My 64 mom was a health nut, non smoker, non drinker exercise junkie with no problems besides RA and after 18 months on this poison she developed a small atypical carciniod tumor in her left lung. After a 24 month battle fighting at sloan, mt sinia & Pittsburg this rare aggressive cancer in the liver, spine, ribs it finally hit the brain and we lost. She and I both had/have no doubts Enbrel took her out. I see these Embrel commercials these days with smiling folks and want to puke, how dare you. Beware people, bewareRead More Read Less

I am 16 years old and have been taking enbrel for 6 years now. I suffer from a rare form of Psrorias called Genulized Pusular Psorias. Ive been on many medication from a young age such as Methotrexate but none have worked as well as Enbrel has. Enbrel is easy to use, I inject myself and its painless. As for side effects I dont have many, I would just develop a cold or a sore throat more often than others. Would deffo recommend this to patients, it has saved my life :)

I contracted a very mild case of psoriasis about ten years ago. Earlier this year, I began to develop joint pain in my neck, jaws, one shoulder, one knee, and both of my ankles. The pain became so severe that I could barely walk. I consulted with a Rheumatologist, and she diagnosed me with Psoriatic Arthritis. After some blood work, she prescribed Enbrel, 50 mg. per week. Self injecting with a pen like dispenser, you never see the needle. It's really easy. At any rate, after three weeks, the pain began to subside. After three months, I am pain free! I feel like this has been a miracle for me! I can play golf, train with free weights, walk my dogs, and perform everyday chores with no pain at all! Thank god my insurance covers all of the cost which is $2,950.00 per month.Read More Read Less

I had psoriasis for over 10 years. Topicals did almost nothing for it. I made peace with my psoriasis but when it turned into psoriatic arthritis, everything changed. The joint pain was miserable, almost unbearable. I went on methotrexate for about a year, which helped get rid of the pain and some of the plaque psoriasis. I have been on Enbrel for about 6 months now and everything has cleared up and I basically have no joint pain. I am hoping that this will last a long time. I still haven't figured out the best way to inject myself. Sometimes I feel absolutely nothing but sometimes it burns.Read More Read Less

I have had very painful psoriatic arthritis in my feet to the point of barely being able to stand or walk. Also severe psoriasis all over. I have started taking Enbrel with Methotrexate for the past month and 1/2 and have had amazing results. The swelling and pain are gone and my skin is finally starting to clear up. I'm so happy to be able to walk without crutches again. Overall I have had a great experience with Enbrel. Like others, I hope my insurance company continues to cover the cost because there is no way I could afford it otherwise.Read More Read Less

I woke up after the first injection with no pain/stiffness (I have AS). I developed a red, itchy patch at the site if the second injection. After that, every time I injected the drug ALL the previous injection sites lit up red and itchy. I never again had the benefit I saw after the first injection when there was no allergic reaction/hypersensitivity. Stopped taking it.

I am 57 and diagnosed with RA 3 years ago. I have now taken Enbrel for 6 weeks,(50 mg once weekly). The Autoinjector is easy to use and I seem to tolerate Enbrel. However, my symptoms have not improved at all. I suppose I should give it more time and will discuss with my rheumatologist. I also take plaquenil, ibuprofen, and prednisone (for flares). I'm wondering how long I should continue on Enbrel before giving up, and asking the Dr to try a different biologic (maybe an infusion). I feel worried and discouraged, b/c I cannot retire yet, I need to be able to function, and be independant.Read More Read Less

Developed AS in my 20's and have taken many treatments from a variety of drugs. Started taking Enbrel when it was introduced after using Remicade and Methotrexate. The difference has been wonderful. Some side effects, dry eyes, declining vision etc. Balance is improved 95%, little or no pain except when I over exert working in the yard. Occasional use of Predisone when things flare up. I take 2x injections per week and agree the cost is killing me in increased insurance premiums. Mckesson rebates are extremely helpful with the deductible ($4000 per year on my plan) but then the insurance covers it for the rest of the year. Can hardly wait til Medicare 14 months out and hope that it is covered.Read More Read Less

This was also another disappointment i was in high hopes that this would be the one that would be the miracle cure, but unfortunatly it wasn't.. I got no relief from this medication, it actually caused me to go into worse flares than the actual disease itself.. I wish you the best :/
