I have taken Miralax daily for over 10 years. My life before Miralax was miserable. Hard stools, hours in the bathroom, and many days between bowel movements. It got so bad that I would actually black out when the pain got so bad. I hope Miralax never goes away. I've tried every other stool softner, fiber supplement, etc. They taste bad, and have no impact. Miralax mixes easily into my morni...

JUST AFTER USING THIS PRODUCT FOR THE FIRST TIME, MY GRANDSON AGE 3 WAS DIAGNOSED WITH NEPHROTIS SYNDROME. EVERY TIME I'VE USED IT SINCE HE'S BECAME ILL HE BECOMES PUFFY. I WONDER, DID THE MIRALAX SOMEHOW BRING THIS CONDITION ON? HE WAS PERFECTLEY HEALTHY BEFORE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF SOME CONSTAPATION. HE'S BEEN SICK FOR THREE MONTHS NOW. HE USED THE MIRALAX FOR ABOUT TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO GETTING IL...

I have ordinary constipation but sometimes constipation related to diverticulitis. Miralax works to soften stool and promote movement, overnight, but during a diverticulitis flare it causes bloating and pain without results. It is not as effective as mag citrate, but is supposedly safer. I do not trust this product to work. Because the first dose causes pain and bloating, I am reluctant to take another, even when the doctor says "keep taking more until it works." Logically, if one doses causes pain and bloating, two doses will cause more trouble.Read More Read Less

I had constipation due to my depression med, Effexor. I tried other drugs but I needed increasing dosage. I had to use Miralax (generic version from Costco) for several days before it worked. I take it 4 or 5 days a week, and I am very regular now. My doctor says it's safe to take everyday if needed, and I haven't had any side effects.

My doctor recommended miralax. I really hoped it would provide relief for my life altering constipation. My experience has been awful and is still going on. I took it for 5 nights before I finally had a bowel movement. For the next 3 days I have had terrible gas and soft mushy leakage that I can't control. I have been very uncomfortable. Hopefully after today I will back to normal. I won't ever take this again. I researched miralax and it is bad for you. One use of the ingredient is to treat wood.Read More Read Less

My doctor directed me to take Miralax for colonoscopy prep. It did not work to fully clean out my bowls. Also, it tastes like plastic. Since it didn't work for me, I decided to read a little about it and found that it may harm one's kidneys. Apparently the main ingredient is also used to treat wood! I hope that my kidneys have not been damaged.

I have had severe constipation, diverticulitis, ibs and an ileus with a recent bowel resection. I was on a lot of narcotic pain meds which gave me severe constipation. I was placed on Linzees which worked, but too well. Miralax was gentle enough to use everyday with out having to make mad dashes to the bathroom. I had no side effects and It has allowed me to stop taking Linzees.

I only take this occasionally. I suffer from gastroparesis & had to change my diet. All my veggies must be cooked now. It's hard to get enough fiber & water. I'll get BM's that won't come out and usually one dose of Miralax does the trick very quickly.

I have been using Miralax every day for the past three years, and it has kept me out of the hospital. I am prone to bowel obstructions due to scoliosis and adhesions due to multiple abdominal surgeries. It has really improved my quality of life and reduced a lot of worry, anxiety and discomfort from painful, life-threatening obstructions.

Like many, I have had a positive experience using Miralax (generic) on a daily basis. With all medications where the dosage can vary, e.g., constipation, sleep, anxiety, pain meds., and so on, I always try to find the lowest dosage that works for me. With Miralax, I started with 1/2 a cap, once per day, and it worked satisfactorily. I've now upped the dosage to the suggested 1 capful just to see if there is any additional benefit. There's no change in "performance" after one week, so I'll reduce the dosage again to 1/2 the recommended. Then, after a week, I'll reduce that by 1/2 again (1/4 recommended dose) for a week to see if I can manage with that. The point is, with these types of meds be aware of your own personal experiences and lean toward using the least amount that works satisfactorily. Footnote regarding Miralax: the farts are pretty stinky!Read More Read Less

I have severe constipation of unknown origin (suspected endometriosis and/or IBS). Miralax is the best laxative I've tried. It's prescribed to me in giant bottles and I take it about once a week. I occasionally get nauseous as it works its way through me, which is the worst side effect. But it's only happened twice. Miralax is very dehydrating, so I make sure to double my water intake (as it says to do on the bottle). Listen to your body. If a laxative is causing too many side effects, cut back on the dose or frequency. One size doesn't fit all. Read More Read Less

After taking it the first time I got a bad headache. Then after a couple hours I had a shivery-shaky feeling like when very cold but I wasn't cold. Every muscle in body ached for 24 hours afterward and I would feel weak and could hardly stand the muscle aches. I would not take Miralax again.

My son has been taking this since he was 3 for chronic constipation, after we tried everything dietary with little success. He is now 9 and he has had so many problems not gaining weight ever since he was 3! He is so very thin and I've tried everything to get him to gain weight with no luck. I recently did some research on Miralax and it's very scary! It is not approved for use in children and should not be used more than 7 days! It's never been studied in children yet it is prescribed on a chronic basis all the time. My son also has experienced major behavior problems like "meltdowns" over minor things, depression, suicidal thought, aggression and insomnia. ALL of these have been seen by other parents whose children take Miralax. I don't know if it's reversible, but I will never use this crap again. I feel horrible that he has taken it for this long. Now going to try magnesium, vitamin C and probiotics, and more water of course! His diet is full of fruits and veggies already. There is a study going on now at Children's hospital of Philadelphia studying the neuro-psychiatric effects of Miralax on children. I wonder what the study will find!Read More Read Less

I don't think I have heard much about anyone gaining weight on Miralax but I have gained at least 10 pounds and my husband has even mentioned that I am gaining a lot of weight. I also am very bloated all of the time with very extended abdomen. My feet and legs have a lot of edema which I have never noticed before. I really hate this because I am not constipated since I have been taking it.

I rectal surgery on 9/22/14 and my doctor told me to take a dose of Miralax daily. I have not been able to leave the house because of Miralax, I can barely make it to the bathroom. As for cramping, etc., I have had my share of it. I will never take this again and advised others to careful, there are other laxatives out there that don't cause the problems Miralax does. I looked at their website and they do not list side effects that I could find. Right now I am in pain and have unstoppable diarrhea from this product.Read More Read Less
