Here is my story with Avelox: There is no other medication that I have taken that has been so effective in knocking out infection quickly. This does, however, come at a price of side effects. If you EDUCATE yourself about this drug, you will know how to avoid some/most of these effects. This drug stimulates your central nervous system. Do not take in too many stimulants like nicotine, caffeine...

Worst experience ever with any drug. The doctor prescribed me avelox for a flu thinking it was a bacterial infection. The moment I took the first dose I puked it out. Since then I've been diagnosed with liver inflammation and am admitted to the hospital.

I was pretty scared taking it the first time lol but it honestly wasn’t bad , I felt like I smoked a blunt. I was lightheaded, extreme hunger, giggly and within 30 mins drowsy asf.make sure you eat a proper meal like 3 hours before taking your dose , I didn’t experience any vomiting or diarrhea. I did experience increased heart rate on like the 5th day of taking but just breathe in and out listen to some music just know you’ll be fine, it helps having someone stand by so if you do need help they’ll be there. After a bit my heart rate would go down. Only shitty part was waking up anxious been 4 days off it and still waking up that way. I use to have bad panic attacks in the past so this is really nothing to me. You just have to find things that’ll calm you down. It treated what needed to be treated so great.Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this medication for cellulitis. It cleared it up very well but I developed a severe allergic reaction to it causing a rash all over my trunk, arms and legs. It was both painful and very itchy. I also felt very unwell with nausea and diarrhoea. It took more than a week to clear after I finished the one week course of one tablet a day.

I was prescribed this for a severe sinus infection and it was the worst antibiotic experience i've ever had. It made me feel extremely nauseous and weak and after a few days I had to go to the emergency room where I was put on an IV because my neck and throat had began to swell, inhibiting my breathing. I have no doubt it was my bodies response to this poison entering it. I was given a Zithromax prescription at the hospital afterwards and my sinus infection cleared up fine.

I was prescribed this medication along with a nasal steroid spray for 10 days to treat a sinus infection. Day 1 - took the first dose and vomited an hour later. Day 2 - slept most of the day and my cold pretty much dried up and sinus pressure greatly decreased. Day 3 - got diarrhea, moved time of dose to before bed and had no more stomach issues. Day 4 - woke up at 2 am with a cold on the left side of my head - left eye and nostril leaked constantly, left side of throat sore. Day 5 - cold completely dried up again, throat still sore. Sinus pressure almost gone Day 6 - Sore throat and ankles hurt. Sinus pain gone. Day 6 - ankles still sore, throat improving. Was going to call the doctor if ankle pain persisted. I was so far into the the course of meds, I was hoping just to get through it. Day 7 - no issues. Day 8 - diarrhea Day 9 - started getting a little dizzy/faint when walking in late afternoon and some blurred vision. Day 10 - itchy rash appeared on feet and ankles and dizziness when walking increased, still blurred vision. So glad to be done and hoping this will end all the bizarre side effects. It cleared my sinus infection but the side effects were horrendous and ever-changing. I have never had a reaction to any antibiotic before and I would never take this drug again.Read More Read Less

I have suffered depression since started to take this medicine. With my doctor's consent after knowing the side effect, I have stopped the course of antibiotic even though I have 2 more tablets to complete the course. The depression has taken a great toll on my life. After stopping the side effect still linger for a week's time.

I was given this medication for cellulites and was told to take it once a day. I took it at 9:30pm and within half an hour I started feeling dizzy. Within 1-2 hours my legs became very weak and I had trouble walking. Within for hours I was a complete mess. I had severe anxiety, nausea, couldn't feel my legs as they became very weak. Sleeping was Impossible because of the anxiety. Every time I dozed off I would wake up in a panic a few Minuites later. After about several hours I finally fell asleep and when I woke up in the morning I still felt the same way. The anxiety and muscle weakness was unbearable. I was considering going to emerg. I ended up going to the doctor who gave me different meds. Finally after almost 24 he's I feel much better as I was advised to drink plenty of water to try to flush it out of my system. This medication is a nightmare and I will NEVER take it again.Read More Read Less

I don't know why physicians prescribe such medicine! I was prescribed this medication for sinuses infection for 10 days with prednisone. It has horrible side effects especially when it taken with prednisone. Pain, numbness and shaking in hands and feet. and feel my feet like it put in a boiling water. the worst part... it has no effect and still have bad symptoms of sinusitis except the headache is increased. the worst experience I've had with a drug.

Sinus infection and difficulty breathing lead me to my specialist for a prescription. Was sick for 6 months. Drug was prescribed for 21 days. By day 4 i noticed a considerable improvement. By day 7 I started to have swelling in my hands. Day 10 i'm suffering from heart palpitations and difficulty sleeping. Also having breathing issues now at day 12. I still have a bit of mucous when I cough but overall feel like I've beat the infection. I still have 9 pills to take but I am not sure I can handle the side effects for 9 more days. Seeing a doctor in 2 days. I would suggest taking the drug right before bed to help with rapid heart beat and getting some sleep.Read More Read Less

Treatment lasted for ten days until yesterday. It did make me feel better, most of the infection is gone (although, even though the treatment has ended, I still feel some of the symptoms). However in the past few days my anxiety has gotten dramatically worse, I have experienced labyrinthitis, shakiness, blurry vision and exhaustion. After reading about the side effects and other reviews I believe these are all linked to the medication. I'm glad the treatment is over now and that I didn't experience worse side effects than these, which are possible from what I'm seeing in other reviews. Probably never taking this medication again. Seeing the abundant negative reviews, it impresses me that this drug is still on the market. It might be effective on its' target, but it's extremely dangerous. Read More Read Less

To Matt, the female: "It is not your doctors fault if you don't read the packet with the your prescription and do not bring these issues up. This is a potent drug, doctors (most) don't throw this around unless they believe your condition warrants it." IT IS YOUR DOCTOR'S RESPONSIBILITY TO KNOW YOUR CONDITIONS AND WHAT OTHER PRESCRIPTIONS YOU ARE TAKING. IT IS THE PHARMACIST'S RESPONSIBILITY TO ADVISE YOU OF THE SIDE EFFECTS. Not all people who take this drug are sighted and can read the warnings buried in the several pages of information that comes with each prescription, or intelligent enough to understand what they are reading. EVERY DOCTOR I've seen has given me a roll of the eyes, a condescending grin, and told me it is their "drug of choice" not their "drug of last resort". Please stop defending a drug that is literally killing and crippling tens of thousands of human beings. The FDA is finally amping up their label warning on this class of antibiotics. I am (barely) living proof that this comes too little, too late. I am permanently disabled from being over-prescribed Avelox 10 years ago...long before the potential for death and damage was brought into the limelight. I had chronic sinusitis. It turned out, I had a blocked sinus that had become a cesspool for bacteria. Surgery was finally done to open it up and I have not had a sinus infection since. But, I am now unable to get out of bed, get dressed, brush my hair or teeth, walk more than 100 yards, or do my own housework due to ruptured and torn tendons throughout my body, mostly at the large joints - shoulders, hips, and knees.Read More Read Less

It saved my life from dangerous infections connected with a tooth implant gone bad. My jaw was broken and I faced death 4 times. But Avelox and Flagyl gave me feet neuropathy. I am still dealing with my jaw and feet over a year later. I am having my 3rd surgery in mid-May. Don't have a tooth implant. I use Vicks Vaporub and Silver Shield gel on my feet every am and pm. Also I get acupuncture once a week...previously twice a week and that combo helps a lot.

I was given Avelox and prednisone for an infection in my lungs. Shortly after taking it, my upper body began to itch. It was so bad I was scratching and drawing blood. Then, it was getting very hard to breath! I went into anaphylactic shock. It was lucky that the ambulance came when they did! About 1 hour later, it hit again! I know someone who died from anaphylactic shock after taking this. It hit him twice and he was not at tne hospital the second time. Everyone is different but please be careful if taking this!Read More Read Less

I was prescribed Avelox after a seemingly ineffective treatment of amoxicillin for pneumonia. After taking it once, I started feeling terrible the same evening. I woke up in the middle of the night with sore ankles, weakness, and I had a hard time getting back to sleep. Over the next couple of days, I developed a purpuric rash on my legs, and started getting diarrhea and headaches. I went to emergency and was told to immediately stop taking it. Unfortunately, I still felt the side effects for a while after. It may not have been related, but I also felt emotionally drained and felt very down for many days. My lung infection eventually cleared up, but I think it was the work of the amoxicillin (quite a delayed reaction) rather than this drug.Read More Read Less

I was given Avelox for a sinus infection and I felt worse after taking the first dosage. It was, by far, the worst reaction I have ever had to an antibiotic. I had intense stomach pain, panic attacks, blurry vision, insomnia, muscle and joint pain. I was given it for 10 days, and after calling the pharmacy several times and ending up in the ER, I had to stop taking it after 7 days. Afterwards I suffered with vertigo, TMJ, had an emergency gallbladder removal, numbness in extremities, headaches, developed chemical sensitivities, developed heat/cold intolerances, widespread burning pain, hair fell out, lost a lot of weight, digestive issues, ringing in my ears, muscle cramping, electric shock-like feelings in my feet, bruising, tongue felt like it was burnt, and the list goes on. I cannot fathom why this drug is given. Avoid taking it unless it's literally a matter of life or death. If I knew then what I know now, I honestly would have never taken it. I have nothing to gain by writing a review like this other than to save someone from going through what I have. Read More Read Less

Developed severe headaches within an hour of taking the medication. After 2 days, I had shakiness of the arms/hands. It was difficult to hold my phone to call my physician, also difficult to use my laptop.

Given me for sinus infection. It was my first time taking this medication and I didn't know any antibiotics can cause such effects! First day started to feel sick and shaky. Doctor told me to finish the 7 day course so I continued. Next day, I was more uncomfortable, shaky, was hard to focus, feeling more sick. By the 4th day I couldn't get out of the bed because of newly added symptoms extreme dizziness and nausea. By the 5th I didn't take anymore, I went to doctor, he change the antibiotic. (though he didn't want to at first!!) It's horrible. I'd never consider taking it again. I'm still feeling really disoriented and little shaky although I didn't take it today(5th day). I hope it'll go away. I found out it should be completely out of my system in 63.5 hr. Read More Read Less
