I was prescibed 10 mg dosage at 8pm to help with sleeplessness, irritable bowel syndrome, and back and neck pain. This has been a miracle drug for me! The cost is so much cheaper than the newer drugs that did not help. I would recommend trying this drug. The first few nights I was a little tired the next day, but now I feel wonderful. I can't believe it worked because I was very skeptical.

I had a major surgery in April, and about a couple of months later...I felt something painful in side my skin. Went to see the same doctor that did my surgery and explain to him about the pain and trouble sleeping. He prescribe me with this elavil meds. After I read everything about this elavil...I was in shock? Why did the doctor want me to take this meds? I did not take the medicine because I do...

I was a patient suffering whith chronic severe back pain. The medication did not relieve the problems I was encountering with the back pain, such as irratability and inability to sleep.

I have been using 25mg at bedtime for 12 years now.. It has changed my life. I had IBS since a child and think the IBS was all anxiety related from the start. From the IBS (I thought) I then had panic attacks everytime I would go some where, thinking I was going to have the IBS attacks and ofcourse by thinking it, it did happen.. I was afraid to travel far.. Now I can sleep well, I can go anywhere, even fly, Almost never have an IBS attack.. Feel it has made my life 100% better. It did take a while to get use to the sedation left over in the morning, I did have weird dreams in the beginning, and I cannot go with out the drug. Felt like I needed rehab when I tried to stop it.. I decided to stay on it I guess forever because I do not want to feel like I was before Elavil.. I would definately say it has changed my life for the better!!!!!Read More Read Less

I have suffered with migraine headaches for over 9 years. Most physicians gave up on helping me. Finally, a doctor told me to try Elavil. What a blessing!!! My headaches are gone. I feel better than ever.

Medication was prescribed for Migraine/Tension headaches and has worked very well in preventing the headaches. I have only been on the medication for 1 month and my headaches were lessened after 2 weeks.

I just read through some of the reviews of this medicine and am now concerned. My dr. put me on this to help with sleep, severe depression and spinal pain. I take 150mg at bedtime. When I first started taking it I felt very tired and in a trance for about an hour in the morning but that side effect went away quickly (within 3 days). It seemed to work at the beginning when I first started taking it for the sleep problem and the pain but seems that it has quit working. My shrink wants me to stay on it none the less if for no other reason for the depression benefit. I also take citalapram and 300mg of welbutrin for depression. diagnosis is borderline personality disorder and pain.Read More Read Less

Have been taking for 2 weeks now for IBS and stress related stomach problems. Only taking 10mg at night before bed and I not only sleep like a baby, but has helped me with my intestinal problems as well.

I haven't taken it long enough to see/feel the effects. And I'm not sure yet, why my doctor put me on it.

I still woke up with headaches, drozzy all day irritable with everybody, depressed.I believe this medication was actully giving me headaches so I stopped taking a week ago and I haven't had a headache since and I feel much happier than I did when I was taking these elavils.Maybe they just weren't met for me or my headaches were diagnosed wrong that could be possible.

Started taking for migraine prevention. Found it also helped reduce the pain from my fibromyalgia a great deal. Found that 20 mg helped best with pain, but had to reduce to 15 mg as it induced a hypomanic state (bipolar II). Wish I could take more for fibromyalgia, and for better migraine prevention, but still this is the best medication I've found for all 3. Highly recommended. Just don't cut back quickly without medical supervision esp. if you think you may have bipolar.

Started Elavil as a preventative (migraines and tension headaches) 12 days in a row being in that much pain. Having them since I turned 40 (now 45) Needed and wanted to try somehting. After a week no migraines. After a month minimal pain from those type headaches. Being on the medicine is better than having severe pain that makes you just want to crawl under the covers.

After taking Elavil for several years I started having trouble with drowsiness. It got real bad, to the point of falling asleep at work, driving or any time I got still. I just quit taking it about a month ago, no more falling asleep at work.

Before taking Elavil I would almost always wake in the morning with a headache. Since taking one 10mg pill before bed, I have been sleeping deeper and no longer wake up with a headache. The only side affects I had was dry mouth and and feeling a little groggy in the morning, but they went away in time. The side affects were much easier to tolerate than the headaches.
