I had clear skin my entire life until I hit the age of 21. Suddenly I had horrible acne all over my cheeks, jawline and around the sides of my mouth (at all times, not just during period). It was so bad that I rarely left my room, and I wouldn't even let my boyfriend see me unless the lighting in the room was extremely dim. Suddenly, I stopped hanging out with friends and couldn't even bare going...

I am 52 and take bioidentical hormones. I have experienced excessive facial hair growth. I was prescribed this med to reverse the effects of testosterone. Too much light headedness and abdominal pain. Have not seen any reviews for this excessive hair growth. Am I the only one to be prescribed this med for it?

I'm wondering if anyone has had a problem with UTI (urinary tract infections) associated with being on spironolactone.....

I'm 54 years old. Prescribed by dermatologist for post-menopausal acne. Started at 50 mg. Had pain in legs and menstrual bleeding. Reduced to 25 mg per day--with good results. Been taking for 6 months. Took about a month to be effective, but have had clear skin ever since.

I keep reading reviews about acne. I thought this medicine was for edema associated with chronic heart failure. These reviews make no sense.

As anyone taken Spironolactone for cystic adult acne, and experienced throat spasms called Cricopharyngeal Spasm? It occurred around the same time I was experiencing tightness in the chest. I only administered the drug for 4 weeks but the side effects have persisted.

I am in my mid 40s. I have had acne issues since my teenage years. I used retin A in my 20s which cleared my acne after a few months. I had not found anything in recent years that worked. My dermatologist recommended spironolactone. In less than two months, increased from 50mg/day in month 1 to 100mg/day in month 2, I went from chronic cystic acne basically all over my face to clear skin. Only side effects for me are dry lips, increased urination, and occasional dry mouth, but the results are amazing!Read More Read Less

Acne all of my teenage years up until now and I'm almost 44. Finally a pill that works. My face is the clearest ever! I never go a few days without getting big sore red pimples around my chin or jawline area and I've only been taking this pill for 3 weeks now and not 1 breakout! Frequent urination but not that bad to where it will make me want to come off of this medication. No way!!!0

Dermatologist recommended for stubborn adult acne (some cystic). Nothing else worked. This stuff is a miracle, and now I'm down to 1/day (from 3, originally) and NO acne!!

Was prescribed this med by my dermatologist for facial hair and acne due to my PCOD. Been taking it for about 1 week and can already see a difference in the rate of my hair growth and my acne. My only concern is that i suffer from both low BP and headaches. So far i have noticed that mid afternoon 1 to 2 i seem to be getting headaches and a bit light headed. I hope these side effects fade away after a few weeks, because this has been the only thing to work on my issue. Even after 7 laser treatments on my face, i still had a ton of facial hair. I pray that this will be my magic cure.. Read More Read Less

I have been using this drug for 3 months. I had monthly issues with acne due to hormonal changes. My skin is 95% better. Amazing. I don't believe I have had any side effects except maybe some light-headedness when standing up too fast from sitting (so I move slower and I am fine). I would try it. I have struggled on and off with acne throughout my adult life - creams, other oral meds, washes, etc. Only this has worked consistently over time with awesome results. Highly recommend you try it. I am a male using this drug for low potassium, about a week ago I noticed that my nipple is very sore, it is one of the side effects of this drug. I am waiting on my doctor to let him know that I am having trouble. Is there any other people having this issue?

I never had issues with acne until recently, I'm in my early 20's. I tried everything in the book, from topicals to antibiotics. Finally went to a different dermatologist last week and she put me on this medication. It has only been a week, and my face looks absolutely amazing. You can tell my face is already healing. No side effects so far. It's a miracle!

I have PCOS and was prescribed this medicine for acne . I took this medicine for about 2 months before I started to experience extreme bladder pain and bladder spasms. My doctor had never heard of Spironolactone causing such issue and diagnosed me with interstitial cystitis a chronic painful bladder condition. I stopped taking Spironolactone because it was the only thing I had changed in my diet and I think did the damage to my bladder. 3 months off of the medicine and my bladder is still damaged I just hope it recovers. Has anyone else had this happen? Despite the bladder damage, the medicine did clear my acne, I didn't finish the full course but have not broken out or had any cystic acne since. It does work but beware of side effects, this bladder condition is really horrible. Read More Read Less

It really keeps my blood pressure down and I notice if I forget to take it I get heart palpitations. My spouse also takes it for other reasons not listed, he takes it to reduce testosterone for m2f transition.

I have suffered from Cystic Acne for nearly 8 years, I am posting what cured my problem on the hope it will help someone else. I tried many antibiotics over the years, all the creams you can get, I went vegetarian for one year, and I went without diary for 6 months. I tried taking all the health supplements you can think of. I did all the "natural stuff" - the cleaning, the cleansing, avoiding this/that, everything. I took outrageous amounts of vitamin A. I watched my diet like crazy, and chugged water everyday. I had tried EVERYTHING!!! Seriously everything! Finally, I tried one more drug before I would take Accutane (way too scary, dont take it, its essentially chemotherapy). My Derm prescribed Spironolacto - he told me I have to be patient with it. I take 50mg twice per day. After two months of being on it my face was CLEAR - since then, its been 6 months, I have had NO BREAKOUTS!!!! (I used to have a new breakout every week) I am over the moon and I wanted to share my success!! This drug is like a miracle drug for me, I have not noticed ANY side effects at all! It did take two months to become effective, but I am so happy I stuck with it!!Read More Read Less

Currently I have been taking this medication for my Acne that gets worse about a week before my period. I started out taking 50mg once a day in the morning, always felt very sick to my stomach in the morning even with food, started taking it at night and that solved that problem, after 1 month at the 50mg dose, I didnt notice a difference in my skin, so my Dr. bumped me up to 100mg a day. Almost at the end of one month at that dose, and just starting to notice improvement. Hoping it continues...Read More Read Less
