Started of with a severe case of MAI that put me in the hospital for long periods of time. Medication is to be used in combination with Rifampin and Azithromycin. Problem: had to leave Rifampin because it was severely dropping my platelet count to critical condition. Platelets are doing som much more better with also the addition of Prednisone to keep those levels up. Only two docotrs out there wh...

In all fairness I have only been on this medication for 6 days along with Biaxin. I must continue this med for 1 year. I really cant tell too much of a difference. At first it made me very nauseated, but my body seems to be adjusting.

Diagnosed with MAC Dec 2016 after 6 days in the hospital, a cat scan and a bronchoscopy. The MAC was verified after 6 weeks from culture from the bronchoscopy. Given Rifampin, Azithromycin 500 Mg/day, Ethambutol 1600 mg/day. I am on these 3 since Feb 2017 and will be on them at least till December. My best friend is plain oatmeal (water

I've been taking this drug, along with 2 others, for a year now. I had to take two breaks in treatment because of abnormal liver tests. The scary thing about Ethambutal is it's possible effects on the optic nerve. Ive been told to watch for blurry vision, not double vision. My eye doctor tells me that if my optic nerve is being affected that I will know right away. I go for an exam every 3 months. If you are on Ethambutal and your eye doctor isnt checking your optic nerve frequently, find a new eye doctor!Read More Read Less

I took this medicine in combination with other drugs to combat with PTB. It was quite hard period. I have been taking it for last 5 months. My only problem is blurred vision which is a great setback for me. But i would say medication is effectively combating my illness and recent reports favor them. Hope u find this helpful. thank you. â?º

I was on this medication for about 6 months when my vision was severely affected. I cannot drive at all. I can only read, do computer work, use my cell phone with the aid of a magnifying glass. Been off med for 7 weeks with no improvement. Scheduled to see a neuro specialist.

Experienced nausea, extreme sweats, hot flashes, dizziness and a rash resembling ezema. Continued treatment for six months which concluded in negative sputum sample, but had to discontinue due to side effects.

I have been on this medication for 3 months now and I have noticed my vision is getting worse by the day. I think I am also going deaf. It is very tough medication to take! I am right now weighing the decision to stop taking them.

I ws on Humira for psoriatric arthritis. The Humira suppressed my immune system and I contracted TB. The 5 medications given by the State Health Dept. have been working successfully. This is a 6 month treatment - no major side effects, just a bit of nausea on two days a week that I take the medicine.

Only two docotrs out there which I would like to thank for the resolution: Dr. Carlos Girod; Pulminary Specialist and Dr. Froelich; Hematologist Specialist. Excellent doctos that have kept me alive even after other doctors mentioned I had no hope for survival. I would like to extend my thanks to these two hardworking dedicated doctors. Thank ya'll.Read More Read Less

I have a very rare infection Mycobacterium Mariniem in my left arm. The doctors told me I contracted this from working with a fresh water pond I have on the property I work at. We irrigate the grass and trees with this water. I have never been so misdiagnosed before from so many doctors. In any event I am now on this drug plus a host of others and I'm not sure for how long. It has terrible side effects including but not limited to dizziness, lethargic, generally not feeling like myself. I also take some mental medications for depression that this and some of the other drugs block. Not that I'm a raving maniac but I think I'm feeling withdraw from my mental medications because these are blocking them. Not sure of an alternative since I have to weigh the pros and cons of taking this. I wish I had better news but I felt I should write something for anyone who feels they are the only one having these issues.Read More Read Less

This is the 2nd time I've had this thanks to Lupus and my weakened immune system. Seems to have disease under control. I get my eyes checked every 6 months because of the Rifampin and blood work every 2 months to check my liver for problems. My total treatment time is 18 months and I can't wait for it to be over just so I can stop taking so many pills.

I was warned that there could be complications from this medicine. I didn't realize the severity of damage that could occur to my vision. Sudenly my vision in my left eye became very blurry. It has affected my job alot. It has been two weeks of treatment and my vision is not back to normal.

When my doctor first put me on the three antibiotics he said he would monitor me to make sure the pills weren't killing me. I had been having more severe migraines than my usual and when I had double vision I reported it to my doctor and he said it is a side effect & I would have to still take it for at least 18 months. When I questioned him why when the makers of Ethanbutol said to seek medical attention immediately? He just shrugged his shoulders. Now today I find out, 5 months later it could have caused irreversible blindness. I got this atypical tb because my physician didn't take x-rays of my lungs for three to follow up for my breast cancer. Why did he not take x-rays? that would be a good question! And one wonders why I don't trust doctors.Read More Read Less
