Doc gave me meds and said use at the start of flare-up. Worked great, most pain gone within seven hours. Loved it. Later the diarrhea set in. Next day could not get far from toilet. Worked better than anything I have tried but side effects were discouraging.

I have tried colchicine with little success. I find that drinking 3 to 5 litters of water per day and removing red meat from my diet has had a huge impact on reducing the severity and duration of my gout attacks. I also take 800mg every 4 hours during an attack. This has made life livable for now. Not sure what will happen when I get older. fyi...started having sever gout attacks at 28 I'm no...

I've started taking this drug under my eyes of my dr.'s just a couple of days ago. I started with 2 pills and increased yesterday to 3, one every 8 hours. I feel a tiny bit of relief for bit but the excruciating pain still exists. I also take 300mg of Allopurinal daily and other heart meds unrelated to the gouty arthritis I've been diagnosed with. I have the severe pain symptoms in my knee, (right) and end of june it was my left knee. I've had the fluid drained in my left knee twice and been given shots of cortisone. This seemed to have arrested the left knee problem. I'm faced now with another visit to my specialist for another fluid drain for my right knee and more cortisone. The pain gets worse when I'm sitting then have to stand and become mobile again. I've also taken tylenol 3 for the pain relief just so I can catch a bit of sleep.Read More Read Less

May cause diareah the next day if you over take. Only take enough for pain to start to subside. It will continue to subside even after you stop taking.

I am 82 years old and have had my 1st gout attack for the last 3 months. Taking Colchicine had no effect and i am on my 7th container of it (6 x 25 x5mg). It was not working as I also take Lipitor(40mg) daily. I read somewhere that Statins negate Colchcine and I stopped the Lipitor 3 days ago and my gout is dissapearing now. At last relief. 3 doctors failed to know this amd advise me. Hooray for the internet.

Judging from the other opinions, I have been very lucky in that I have not experienced any of the side effects, only blessed relief from the swelling and pain of gout. I have used this as an emergency Rx before and it has always worked for me. I consider it a godsend for gout but perhaps the other complaints were not taking it as prescribed properly or were taking it for too long a period after obtaining relief. One .6 mg tablet every four hours - no more than 4 in one day and cut back and stop when relief is obtained.Read More Read Less

My first few cases of Gout was in my ankle, toes, fingers and elbow. Colchicine helps tremendously! I am afraid to travel anywhere without it. I take 0.6mg once a day. Soft bowels, no runny diarrhea, no stomach cramps - not bad at all, and no nausea. I take the medication around 9:00pm, before bedtime. Bowel movements begin the next morning. The benefits of pain relief are worth it. Colchicine relieves MOST of the pain. I no longer take 800mg Advil/Ibuprophen for pain. Colchicine takes care of the night pain in my ankle that wakes me up around 2:00am. I sometimes have a little pain, but no pain like I had prior to my doctor prescribing Colchicine. The benefits definitely out way the risks.Read More Read Less

I am female, age 65 and have had gout for 10 years. My father, his mother and my brother also have/had gout. I have attacks/flairs in my fingers, wrist, instep and lower spine(very rare). I take Allopurinal 600mg. daily and take Colchicine 0.6mg daily for 5 days when I have a flair. I have 6 to 10 flairs a year. I go to a Rhematologist for treatment of my gout. The Colchicine works very well for the flairs. The Rhematologist does not want to increase the Allopurinal since it is kind of hard on the kidneys and he says I am still young-nice to hear. I incourge everyone to go to a Rhematologist for diagnosis/treatment, that is one of their specialities.Read More Read Less

I have SAPHO SYNDROME... CHRONIC inflammation/joint pain. Knees, ankles, wrists, L5, ribcage, shoulders & sternum all attacked by this rare, auto immune, arthritic disease.. Colchicine is the only medication other than NOT SO FRIENDLY narcotics to give me any sort of relief. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TO ANY & ALL, WITH INFLAMMATION AILMENTS!Started working for me within 12 hours. (one 0.6 mg tablet/day).
