Abdominal pain, muscle cramps, lower back pain, pain between shoulder blades, headaches and dizziness. The side effects far out weigh the benefits of taking it.

I take it at the present time for arthritis in my shoulder and knees. I had my first injection 5 1/2 months ago. The pain in my knees disappeared completely. I did not need to go back for another injection for 5 months. I used less pain medication when I did this. I had minimal side effects.

Whilst on the drug I had minimal side effects slight weight gain and course hair, was on it for approx 18 mths that was ten years ago. I am now having some arthritic symptoms going to rheumatologist in Feb 2014 but wondered if this could be a long term side affect? At the time I was satisfied but one not so sure.

I received a cortisone shot in the left knee and was able to walk with out a cane for several hours without any debilitating pain. The only side effect I had after the shot for the first 3 to 4 days was listlessness and fatigue . I was always sleeping as if I had taken a sleeping pill . Now I feel fine , very alert and can't wait to take a walk. I recommend this stuff for knee pain If you don't want your knee replaced or tired of popping pain pills or using ice packs all the time.

I've taken oral cortisone series twice (prednisone) for severe eczema. The effects are extremely rapid. It's unfortunate that one can't take it often. Side effect both times were euphoria in beginning, depression for a few days when cycle is complete and a backlash rash. It was like clockwork. All were informed by my dr so I was not taken by surprise.

My head had felt foggy and congested in the brain ever since I started taking this. I took last pill last night and am still waiting for this foggy disturbance to cease. Very irritating, all day!

I have uveitis in both eyes, inflammation acute in both and cortisone was prescribed for 60mg x 4 days, 40mg x 4 days, 20mg x 4 days, then 10mg x 4 days. 2 days after finishing regime both eyes flared again with another Rx of 60mg for 1 wk, then 40mg for 1 wk, then 20mg for 1 wk, then 10mg for 1 wk. More inflammation was noted and a cortisone injection was administered into each eye. The injections were 4 days ago and eyelid areas still very bruised and swollen from ointment given before injection; via swab. The sarcoidosis prevented the numbing drops and ointment from any "numbness". Extremely painful!! Am hoping my "round" face will go down and the eyes will react to injections. Will return 2 wks for re-exam. I am also being treated for glaucoma. Have stints in both eyes and b.i.d. drops (Cosopt and Pred Forte) and post op cataract surgeries in Sept. 09. Read More Read Less

I have Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) treatment is high doses of cortisone 60mg daily. Only 20-30% get positive results.I am one of the lucky ones. Side effects truncal weight gain, incredible thirst, hair growth, sweats, pus like blisters on hands and in hair, confusion, nervy, shakes like parkinsons, insomnia & agitated. High cholestrol, high blood pressure, nausea, fluid retention & calcium & vit D deficiency has been pre-empted by Dr. and medication given to counter these. Not easy but it is working and am now in remission and easing off cortisol 5mg a week.Read More Read Less

Cortisone is by far the most effective treatment for osteoarthritis which I have. It has not helped with my big toe, but this is probably due to bone spurs. The only problem is taking it 4x daily and forgetting it, even with written schedule.
