I am a 58 year old Licensed Nurse. I have degenerative disc and joint issues & post piriformis muscle release sciatic nerve pressure consistently. I was told five years ago I could never work in my profession again. I can honestly state without my 600mg of Gabapentin in the morning and 1200mg at night I would never get any sleep and would be suicidal over the pain levels. This drug is a Godse...

This medication made it nearly impossible to live any kind of life, makes me dizzy, lightheaded, and my face numb.....This medication never did anything for pain, (Neuropathy), or anything else for that matter. Crap Drug, should be flushed down the toilet, along with the Dr. that prescribed it!!!

I just started this medication last night 6/17/15 300mg. Today is the first day I awoke with minimal pain. I had back surgery twice, 360 lumbar fusion for degenerative disc. My feet are still numb, burning, but my back pain is almost gone. What a relief! Time will tell if this med will continue to be effective. I will update as time goes on. For the present, I'm thrilled!!!

This medication helps my anxiety tremendously. It does have side effects, like all meds. But it's worked great with my Wellbutrin. It keeps me calm, not so easily angered, more patient, yet I still have all my emotions, I'm not a zombie, like antidepressants. Been taking 300mg 3 times a day, morning, afternoon, evening, I wake up in the morning without anxiety, nervous stomach, I sleep good, yet able to easily get up. Been taking around 3 yrs now, plan on continuing.

I have been on Neurontin for many years. 300mg x2 daily. First for nerve pain from degenerative disc (I've had 6 spinal surgeries) disease. Somewhere along the way my husband started noticing that my moods were much better. I also have Bi-Polar and anxiety issues, so now my psychiatrist prescribes it for me as an anti-depressant, along with my regular Lexapro. I don't really feel physically better, I'm still taking Rx pain medication, but I have felt better good mentally.

I find it ironic that one of the side effects of neurontin is anxiety, and yet, anxiety and panic disorders are precisely why I was prescribed this drug. I suppose in those without the disorders it induces anxiety, but for me it's the total opposite. When I have an acute anxiety or panic attack, I literally feel physical pain. My heart feels like there's a fist squeezing it, and I feel a sharp pain on my left side, just under my breast, going all the way through the ribs of my back. It feels like someone drove a spike into me. Neurontin takes that sensation around usually within 15 minutes. It does induce lethargy and tiredness, I'll admit, but after a severe attack, rest is good for me anyway. I do have gas, some stomach bloat, and... er... diarrhea... I take several other medications that can cause those same side effects so I can't be certain it's the neurontin causing that, but I'm throwing it out there anyway. The benefit outweighs the side effects. I am truly sorry for those who have had horrible experiences with this drug, but it is very effective to many people, for various ailments, so please don't rail to have it banned. Every person's body chemistry is different, and therefore what works for one may not for another. Just because you've had a negative effect does not mean all people will suffer that. Please try another medication if it doesn't work, but don't try to deprive those who it *does* work for, ok? :)Read More Read Less

Took med for pleural effusion referred pain to shoulder with secondary benefit to improve hot flashes (40+ per day ). Pain relief almost complete with in 24 hrs and total relief of hot flashes. Downside Fast heart rate (normally 70's now 110-120 at rest ) anxiety without cause and chest heaviness, rated 1 (with no cardiac component ) Note: Have history of asthma . In short highly effective med but be attentive to potential side effects. Despite effectiveness I plan to discontinue drug when Shoulder pain gone. Hot flashes are bothersome but not enough that merits having the fast heart rate. Note: Heart rate normal before use and held med for 1 day and heart rate returned to baseline so pretty confident heart speed drug related for me. Great drug ,be very aware of risks that in my case outweigh benefitRead More Read Less

I have take this med for 9 years without significant side effects - some drowsiness and balance issues (taken with a muscle relaxant). I take it to relieve nerve pain from a spinal cord syrinx. I often describe the effect as, "The pain is still there but I have to focus on it to feel it" or "It takes the pain and puts it 'over there'. It has worked very well for me and some others I know but I would not say it will work for everybody. Lyrica (tweeked Neurontin molecule to renew patent - bad tweek at least for me) did nothing for me. Read More Read Less

Neurontin has hidden treatments for things other than nerve pain. It was average in relieving nerve pain, but the surprising result I had was it relieved anxiety associated with pain, somewhat synonymous with a benzo or a Cymbalta. It also will help you sleep.

Without this medicine, I would kill myself, it keeps my anxiety down, the burning on leg, the tingling and numbness. I have a herniated disk radiating into the nerve. My only problem , from time to time don't remember anything. Even 5 minutes after taken the medicine, if I took it.

I had neurapathic pain in my leg so bad that I lost all muscle in my leg and could hardly walk. I could not wear long pants because of pain. I started taking 300 MG of Neurontin once a day and worked up to 600 MG 3 times a day for a daily dosage of 1800 MG. I am now able to live a normal life. I have been able to put over 1400 miles on a bicycle and walk the golf course when I play golf. I have lost 30 pounds since starting Neurontin, it has allowed me to live the active lifestyle I like.

I have depression and this drug at 100 mg is great. It dulls you a bit at first but does not interfere with creativity, work, no memory problems but can make you a bit tired at times but it does work and it does get better. I can celebrate Christmas without feeling bad I have no family on either side that cares for me, I do not care (I am a very nice, caring person, attractive they are all weird). I have a wonderful husband and lots of loving pets. Last year I would not even put up a tree. Big difference. Watch your eating habits, exercise because you can pack on a few pounds. The usual dosage is 300 mg a day I could not handle that I would be way too tired. I am 5 8' and 150 lbs. and a women for reference. If you start taking this drug start slow 100 mg. Be cautious of any drug and always start with the lowest mg possible is my rule of thumb. My friends say "welcome back" and are glad I am happy, do not talk fast but talk at a regular pace and am not sad or depressed. I have tried almost all of the drugs for depression but this drug works for me. Good luck but watch your appetite!!!Read More Read Less

I have nerve damage on left side from partial nephrectomy & resulting incisional hernia (you spell malpractice). The drug works well but doesn't last long....only 300mg 3x/d. Perhaps I should have dosage increased or take more often. Have been trying for 2 weeks to get my physician to call back & I'm not on Obamascare.
