On Coumadin for 30 years in Sept. These reviews are AMAZING! People using words like; "annoyed" with the drug. Try stroke, now THAT is annoying. (Done it) "I can't eat what I want when I want to".... u can eat, it just takes planning. Try being a diabetic! Coumadin has saved my LIFE. It can save yours, or keep you from having a stroke or PE. Read the INSERT on your prescription. COUMADIN will NOT;...
I take coumaden and not the generic warfarin. My side effects are fatigue, waking up anxious, and hair loss. My main complaint is that it seems to have affected my personality, making me more worried, anxious, depressed. I take 7.5 mg per day, and have for over one year. I had a bad case of pulmonary embolisms, blood clots that went from left leg, through heart to lungs which started me of...

I will have been on Coumadin treatment for 50 years on 9/07/2014. I had a Star Edward Mechanical valve implanted in my aortic valve and was put on Coumadin to control blood clots from the valve. I have had great results with Coumadin, but could not regulate generic non brand substitute. I am now 64 years of age and have some issues with nose bleeds that are not as easily stopped as they used to be. I have had some veins cartelized in my nose, but will probably require additional attention.

About 1 month ago, I was diagnosed with a completely OCCLUDED FEMORAL ARTERY in my left leg. I had no history of arterial blood clots, but had a prior history of Chronic Venous Insufficiency (no correlation). I had breast cancer in 2011. I had been taking Tamoxifen for the prevention of another breast cancer for three years, which my specialists attributed the formation of this blood clot to, being that I had no other predisposing factors. I have now been on Coumadin 7.5 mg daily for one month and am doing great! My INR levels are still in the process of becoming regulated, but that's fine by me-- after all, they (the doctors) check it with a simple blood test) weekly. I could have lost my leg (by amputation), suffered a massive stroke, or even died had it not been for the surgical intervention and administration of Coumadin. The only complaint I have is that it makes me VERY fatigued. I am 34 years old, so it's kind of a bummer to have to take mid-afternoon naps, but I am happy to be alive!Read More Read Less

I must say in fairness that I have not had another incident since I have taken Coumaden, which may be thanks to the drug. However, I am looking into alternatives because of the side effects.Read More Read Less

I have taken Coumadin for a Mechanical Aortic Valve since 1997. About 3 yrs ago I developed atrial fibrillation and had received a pacemaker. I think I accidentally took a double dose of Coumadin 48 hrs ago. I have noticed some increased peri-rectal bleeding which is easily stopped with pressure or a pad placed on the area.

Had A-Fib attack 10/12. Went to emergency rm. & laid there 5 hrs.w/ heart racing very fast. They tried an IV w/ something that did not work. Finally gave me electrolytes & it normalized immediately. Dr. wrote RX for Warfarin 5mg & Metoprolol 25mg told me to call a cardiac Dr.(already was taking Lisinopril 40 mg & a water pill from my G.P) Went to cardiac Dr. & they did all tests. Told me my heart was like a 20 yr. old - excl. valves, healthy heart. (I am an 85 yr old woman) All Drs. have left me on all those meds. Am going to cardiac Dr. this week & tell him I want OFF Warfarin. No other attacks since 1st one. I have bad habit not drinking enough water. I think I was simply dehydrated. The "rat poison" has "dumbed me down". I can't think as clearly since I started taking Warfarin. Also totally tired all the time & am losing hair. I hate those finger pricks too. I cut out all sugar & snacks & lost weight down to normal. Eating a better diet. I do not like Warfarin !!!! Read More Read Less

Been on Coumadin for nearly 7 years because of two artificial heart valves. Haven't had one side effect. INR have been pretty consistent. Taking the drug at the "exact same time" every day isn't true. Just take it when you retire for the evening...that's pretty much at the same time every night. I was self monitoring for awhile, but found that I wasn't as consistent with it as going to the Coumadin Clinic, so changed back to that after a couple of years. I have to take the drug the rest of my life so prevent clots around the artificial valves, so I am grateful for it.Read More Read Less

I have had a aortic valve replaced in 1991, i have been on coumadin since. I had the mitral valve replaced 2011 and both valves are mechanical. I have to take coumadin to prevent blood clots from forming. I can only take coumadin, wharfarin does'nt work for my body. My charts show it and my list of medicines have it so i get coumadin instead of wharfarin to keep my INR within the limits.

My husband had a bleeding stroke in 2010, which left him with brain damage due to bleeding in his brain. He also has left side paralysis and paralyzed on left arm & hand. He suffered a PE in his lung 2 weeks after, a stent was placed in a artery to help this. Then 4 months later he had a blood clot in the left leg. That is when he was put on Coumadin and probably till the end of his life. His situation is very serious because he can bleed again in his brain and the outcome probably wont be good, but he needs to be on Coumadin due to the blood clots. He is always cold ,tired, sleepy, and has recently had headaches, I feel so bad for him because of how bad this drug can be for some people. The good thing is that his PT INR's have been in a good range. but I feel the bad thing about this drug is it's just a matter of time before a bleed could happen in his brain because of this drug. Only been a few months since using this med. Trying to get used to it, but I've been experiencing a lot of soreness in my muscles, inbalance, water retention and swelling mostly in the abdomen area that is bothering me. Discouraging.
