Been on Nexium for 6 years. Works good for reflux. Can't stop taking it or symptom's return worse than before. They say it is only an 8 to 12 week treatment. They lied. I was also diagnosed with severe vitamin B12 deficency. I was getting muscle cramps, tingling and numbness in my hands and feet. They never did a study on long term use of PPI's, but they are now warning people about the vitamin de...

After 3 years of using. I develop Osteoporosis. Bcoz it stop producing acid then calcium production is impede. Acid is important in calcium production which important for strong bones. I stop taking it instead I drink a glass of water at bedtime and each time I get acid reflux/heartburn.

I have been on Nexium since it first came on the market.I started on Nexium 20mg but am now on 40mg. I have GERD, Hiatus Hernia, esophageal muscle spasms(which mimic a heart attack), a torturous esophagus(which it causing the food to block up. In the beginning it helped but as the years have gone on I will wake up choking with a sensation going up my throat.I have many of the side effects that I have read here but hadn't know that it was the Nexium. I am having more pain and vomiting, excessive gas, tingling in my feet and hands, excessive weight gain, fluid retention(on fluid tablets to try and relieve the swelling), muscle jerking, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, polyps. I eat small meals but even then it still blocks causing severe pain and then vomiting. I am being referred back to my GI specialist as my GP said the medication is not working as well as it should and that it needs reviewing. I am so glad that I am not the only one who has experienced these sided effects. Read More Read Less

I've tried everything. Been taking 40 mgs for years. Really need to eat nothing 2-3 hrs before bed - it can't work miracles.

I have had chronic heartburn for months, it was waking me up at night and I was unable to bend down without pain. Since taking Nexium 40 tablets for only 5 days!!!!! the pain has gone.

I wish i had read all the reviews before taking this poison. It does what it says and stops the heartburn effectively but the side effects are not worth it. Severe weight gain literally overnight, i gained 5 lbs in 2 days and ate very little. headaches.. started getting severe headaches that lasted a few minutes at a time... joint and back pain... memory loss from what appears to be B12 blocking... calcium deficiency (it blocks calcium as well) I am stopping treatment with this garbage today. it takes 48 to leave your system so hopefully i start to see some improvement then. this garbage should be banned.Read More Read Less

I didn't suffer from heartburn until I was pregnant with my daughter, and unfortunately, it stuck with me even after she was born. She is now 19 months old and I am still dealing with constant heartburn. So when I was given the opportunity to try Nexium 24HR for free, I jumped on it. I took it for 14 days straight and I noticed a substantial change!! So much that I already purchased a new bottle. I have been taking this for over a month now, and I definitely recommend using this product for heartburn! Read More Read Less

This is my best drug. I used to have heartburn all the time eating Tums like candy. I would be sleeping and acid would come up into my esophagus and I would wake up in misery. With Nexium, none of that happens. I can take it every other day and still get by. I love It!

Had coughing for 6 months, regurgitation, etc. Nexus and Prilosec did not help but finding Dexilant and Metocloprimade are helping. Hope this will eliminate the pain and distress I have been having. Working so far.

I had terrible side effects, but didn't connect them to the drug for 6 months: bumpy and very itchy forearms. (I thought it was winter dry skin.) Was dizzy for 2 weeks of every month, but with no other discernible pattern. So now I'm getting off Nexium and my doctor has put me on a prescriptive form of zantac. We'll see if the side effects go away.

The nexium helped my reflux for 24 years. I was devastated to find out that nexium eats up the calcium I was taking for bone density when I entered the pre meni years. There really should be some warning labels or better monitoring during menapause. Clearly the Dr. & company has neglected to educate the patient. I was taken off this due to the findings of osteopenia.

I started on Nexium when I had trouble swallowing food and almost choking. It was determined that my esophagus was scarred by stomach acid and that by taking it for 8 weeks it would allow my esophagus to repair itself. It worked. But, after 4-5 days of stopping the drug I began getting heartburn and acid reflux. During treatment I had no heartburn. I decided to take the drug until I see my doctor regarding the effects of calcium deficiency or Vit. D deficiency. I live on an island and visits to the doctor are once a year (which is coming up soon). I am 71, healthy and have no side affects from this drug whatsoever. Until I consult with my doctor (and I do have osteopenia but am taking a drug to help build bone density) I will continue the drug.Read More Read Less

Went on Nexium for esophageal erosion. Was not told to only take it short term. After three years, side effects started with first getting a rib fracture during a low trauma event. Then occasional bloating, then some headaches, left arm, face, leg tingling and numbness, insomnia, vivid dreams, weight loss. Wife thought it may be Nexium. Dr thought MS or TIA. Had neg MRI brain. Bloodwork showed low vit D and Dr finally agreed with wife. Now Dr says i had malabsorption due to Nexium. Right now im weaning off and taking vit D3. First week decreased dose in half, this week taking it every other day, next week will take every third day then none. I take DGL licorice 20 min before meals and slippery elm tea at night or as needed. Get some bloating and nausea each time dose is decreased but tolerable. I think where people make a mistake is not thinking the PPI is a problem if they've been on it for years because you think you tolerated it this long without problems but know the symptoms we are describing may not show up immediately. Try not to take these meds long term and find alternatives. Also get all vitamin and mineral levels checked, vit B,folate, vit D,calcium, testosterone, magnesium.Read More Read Less

I have been using Miralax and psillium every night for about a year and wanted to try Linzess, but my doctor was hesitant to let me try it. Possible side effects. Anyway, after some reasearch, I realized the Nexium I have been using causes a Magnesium deficiency. So now I take a multi-mineral capsule and a 500mg Magnesium capsule 3 times a day with meals. I have been able to cut back on my chemical medications and have some hope that I will be able to get off them completely by adjusting my mineral intake. Try this, because your boweles can not function without enough minerals. Read More Read Less

I'm on my second week of Nexium. I take one tablet per day in the morning. I am experiencing diarrhea, bloating so bad you could tie a string to my leg and I could float away...or not. Feeling nauseous and truly miserable. I did not take the Nexium this morning and although I've been under the weather all day with diarrhea and feeling like a bloated cow...I am actually feeling somewhat better. The only place for my bottle of Nexium is in the trash. Not for me.

I have taken this medication for over ten years and lately have more and more problems with constipation (IE lack of motility!) bloating distension and pain. I stopped taking it for just two days and bowel movements are normal and bloating is gone. I am having some hyperacidic secretion and slight pain, but the pain from the opposite was worse. Has this been a problem with other long time users of Nexium?
