Been on Nexium for 6 years. Works good for reflux. Can't stop taking it or symptom's return worse than before. They say it is only an 8 to 12 week treatment. They lied. I was also diagnosed with severe vitamin B12 deficency. I was getting muscle cramps, tingling and numbness in my hands and feet. They never did a study on long term use of PPI's, but they are now warning people about the vitamin de...

I was treated for acid reflux and stomach ailments for three years with Nexium. I reached a point of feeling so miserable from the medication that I stopped two months ago. I feel almost like myself again. I eat very small meals and chew antacids. Gave up chocolate, milk and coffee. I've lost fifteen pounds. Plus I don't miss paying over $150 for medication each month.

40 MG taken daily has been effective in eliminating the reflux, but esophogial spasms still occur, albeit not as severe nor for the prolonged periods as before using this drug.

This medication works better than others in the same class. The expense is the only down side.

I have tried the otc and generic drugs, also the Prevacid. None of them work as well for me, even though with my insurance I can get them much cheaper or free, they just don't help me like the nexium does. The only real side affect that I seem to have is diahrea, and that seems to be less of a problem, perhaps as my body seems to be adjusting to the nexium.I am told by my doctor that I will probably have to take it for the rest of my life. That doesn't sit well with me since it is supposed to be the healing pill, but I'm told it will only heal so much.Read More Read Less

I am not sure it's any better or different than Prilosec but it works.
